- Introduction: The use of the new technologies derived from the so called web 2.0 (blogs, videos, podcast, social networks,...) is an innovation that is being very rapidly assimilated by society as a way to generate and communicate information and to build social networks based on professional and personal common interests. Journals have been the main science communication channel for centuries, and are now slowly starting to use this internet tools to improve the communication between scientists, authors and readers. Objectives: To analyze the implantation of 2.0 technologies in Spanish health science journals. Methods and Materials: The journals indexed in IBECS database (Spanish Bibliographic Index on Health Science) have been selected as an study sample. Each of the 160 journals has had its web site individually evaluated, analyzing which of the 2.0 technologies and tools are present. When a journal appears in more than one portal, the one that includes more web 2.0 tools is selected. The variables analyzed were the following: existence of participatory communication channels (blogs, forums, chats ...); presence on social networks and communities 2.0 (Facebook, Twitter, Second Life ...); links with reference managers and social bookmarking (connotea, delicious ...); content syndication channels (RSS), ability to download podcasts, videos, photos and other formats (ppt presentations...) Results: in general, the landscape 2.0 in the field of Spanish health science journals could be described as poor. The adoption of these kind of technologies is still not widespread, compared to some of the most prestigious scientific journals in the international scene. The most popular web 2.0 tools used by Spanish health science journals are RSS feeds.
