- Printed journals have played a distinguished role in scientific communication for over hundreds years. For the last decades the publication market has started moving towards electronic publications. The shift from print to electronic publication of scholarly journals is occurring at a particularly rapid pace. In the face of this shift, the issues of long-term archiving and preservation of electronic journals content has become one of increasing importance. The communities involved are implementing the idea of digital trusted archives in which the published scholarly records in electronic form can be preserved.
