- First, the article includes a brief description about the development of electronic publications in the world. In second place, some definitions of academic electronic journals are presented, including its advantages and disadvantages giving as example the case of the Revista electrónica de Investigación educativa (Redie). Finally, some reflections about the impact of these new technologies in the dissemination of scientific knowledge are presented.
