  • The professional field that intervenes in bibliotherapy practice is studied to locate it within the librarian's professional field. In this paper, the background, definition, types, materials, characteristics of the bibliotherapist and the librarian, and the different methods to bibliotherapy practice are established. The study is classified as an exploratory and descriptive investigation and a non-experimental design. The methodology used in the study is based on documentary review of bibliotherapy articles written by various authors, representing the data in an analysis matrix. Characteristics as the definition of bibliotherapy, its relation with other professional fields according to the authors, the authors’ training and the similarity between the competences of the bibliotherapist and the librarian, were interpreted in the analysis matrices. As a result, it is considered that bibliotherapy is an interdisciplinary and therapeutic activity that makes use of psychology and librarianship to its practice through guided reading with participants, being librarianship the dominant professional field to develop bibliotherapy programs and to make use of it.
