- Using two theories original from the philosophy of language and from the cognitive psychology (the theory of the direct reference and the theory of the ad hoc categories, respectively), the two key principles on which the creation of ontologies leans for the information retrieval are examined critically: the definition of the concepts of a domain of knowledge and the formalization of the relationships between these. The work shows the inherent theoretical problems to these principles.
