- Nowadays it is possible through Internet to buy, to fall in love and even to let messages to our beloved once we die. Internet is part of our life and influences most of our acts. And the trend certainly is that the presence of internet in public scene will keep growing and it will surely become the communication media par excellence. Cultural institutions are totally affected by changes in their environment. Technological advances are all around and they modify our way of being, thinking and working. We could ask how to articulate cultural policies for managing cultural heritage that allow us to adapt our collections and above all, our services in the digital environment. Only digitizing collections seems deficient if not accompanied of a truly revision of our goals. It is no longer a matter of modernizing our methods but also changing our work aims having in mind the needs of the next generation, the so called Google generation. In this article we present different ideas that assume the inclusion of digital perspective in the management of documentary centers and the need of start shaping cultural institutions digitally based. It presents European Union main recommendations in the field and some case studies that from our point of view will be able to confront with success the challenge of digital culture.
