- "Open Access" (OA) is defined as a new model providing free access to scientific publications for libraries and researchers. Institutional repositories (IRs) are a new facility for recording, archiving and managing publications of persons who work for institutions. The development of IRs has given rise to the acceleration of studies on open archives. In this paper, we investigated the relationship between web impact factors and the information diffusion power of IRs in Turkey. Using webometric techniques, we found the number of rich files in IRs, the number of links to them from other web sites and the overall use of IRs in Turkey. The visibility of Turkish IRs (i.e., number of links to files in them) is rather low. Yet they are used quite heavily.
