- This paper explores the usage of Wikipedia in the context of digital libraries. After a short description of Wikipedia and its main characteristics (wiki principle, free content, self-organization), commonalities of Wikipedia and digital libraries are shown. Possibilities to combine both are explained in general with connection methods and in detail with the cooperation between German Wikipedia and German National Library (DDB). For libraries Wikipedia can play an important part on the way to what is called library 2.0 – a more interactive and collaborative rediscovery of libraries in the digital age. It is explained how authority files play an important role in connecting Wikipedia and digital libraries and finally their integration into the evolving Semantic Web.
