- After a brief bibliographical review of the main texts published over the past decade on the subject of databases in Spain, the author describes the present situation with special reference to aspects concerning production and distribution. The two major changes detected, both a result of the explosive entry of the Web, refer to 1) an increase in the supply of databases produced by small and medium centres and 2) the reorientation of the database market towards mass audiences. The article ends by presenting the main trends currently affecting this sector.
