- ABSTRACT This research deals with scientific communication and its many forms of transmission within the various fields of knowledge. Communication and shows that science is the essential means of information dissemination, representing indispensable source of knowledge and update. With a high degree of importance, scientific communication is a process used to disseminate information generated through research, essentially important for the scientific area, since it characterizes as public knowledge. It also presents an example of science communication in the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina - UFSC. First examines the concepts of formal communication, informal and scientific, in addition to specific channels of communication: Articles peri? Doctors, books and events cient? Graphics being more widely used for the dissemination of scientific information. Presents an example of science communication to SEPEX - Week of Teaching Research and Extension, an event that occurs annually in the Federal University of Santa Catarina toward the dissemination of scientific research and allows the exchange of ideas and experiences among the academic community and the community in general. Shows the results of the last edition in October 2009 with the total number of participating booths and activities occurring in parallel. The conclusion is that science communication through these events, contributes to the academic and social development of participants involved and allowing the university to perform its social function.
