- We analyze the digital preservation of library materials from the point of view of the major digitization projects that have been carried out in recent years in Spain, and it follows the need to convert a theoretical concern in a practical necessity, and truly critical, given the volume of digitized material. It examines the two main standards by which the international community is developing policies for long-term digital preservation, ISO 14.721, OAIS, and the Data Dictionary developed by the Implementation Strategy of Preservation Metadata (PREMIS), which have already achieved significant international recognition. It cites recommendations and good practices to be used for digital preservation, from the data encapsulation of PREMIS metadata in the METS schema to ingest them in a OAIS digital preservation repository. Finally a recommendation is made for the incorporation of preservation metadata for digital objects from the moment of its creation, even in an environment where they are not yet defined preservation repositories.
