- In scientific communities such as the high energy physicists, scholarly communication of research output happens much before publication on journals, often on a preprints collective database: individual management of preprints has become difficult due to their growing number. There is a role for information specialists in the set up and management of these new repositories. Scientists are becoming dependent on these new information sources, to the point that Paul Ginsparg, from LANL, foretells the vanishing of traditional scholarly journals.
