  • The "DigiBib" (an acronym for "Digitale Bibliothek", i.e.: "Digital Library") ist the eldest and and - with almost 200 participating institutions - most widely used portal solution in german libraries. Designed by the hbz as a hosting solution it frees the library from almost all administration and maintenance efforts. Nonetheless a seamless integration with the solution portfolio of the individual library is made possible through a highly adaptable layout and a wealth of configuration options. The hbz here acts as a background service provider. It aids the library in every step from content acquisition to usage statistics. Beyond the usual (meta-) search capabilities of similar solutions the DigiBib is capable of integrating a whole range of other services in a single, unified system: link management, ILL, OpenURL resolver, DigiAuskunft (cooperative reference service), EZB, and so on. The upcoming release 6 will provide new possibilities for searching by integrating search engine technology. It will also feature a new, modernised and accessible user interface. The article presents both the system now in service and the new release which is currently being designed and implemented.
