- This work is about digital preservation and the open access to scientific information movement. Specifically about the paradigm change motivated on the provision of access and archiving in the authors’ original institution. Shows that the long term preservation as well as the self-archiving in institutional and subject repositories are just two of the several requirements for the open access. From the open access view those requirements don’t need to come together, because there is the risk to push forward the main concept (open access without restrictions) and to delayed its implementation, putting conditions to the success of the main objectives of the open access. The solution suggested is the building of digital repositories outside of the control of the editors and the commercial data base providers dedicated to the preservation of all kinds of scientific publications.
