- It describes the important performance of the librarian in the Digital Libraries, the most appropriate option to Distance Learning, evidencing the new abilities demanded by this new educational system. Digital Libraries allows for the construction of data repositories organized and accessible to pupils and teachers no matter how distant they may be. Currently, knowledge is a conditional basis for people and organizations that desire to be in tune with the great worldwide transformations, in reason of the fast growth and development of new technologies. The information professional must be prepared for and familiar with Distance Learning in order to create a new form of assistance, mediated by the new technologies, and to serve as a remote guide and supervisor. The profile asks for a more prepared and skillful professional to perform as a librarian of attitude and autonomy in face of the challenges posed by the new society.
