- In recent years libraries in general, and specialized in health sciences in particular, are experiencing an unprecedented development throughout its history. In the latter the proliferation of information, advances in biomedicine, the rise of technology and, especially, the expansion of the Internet have transformed the systems of access to information, causing a number of assumptions about their future. The professionals who manage them have seen the need to rethink how to organize their resources to adapt to current realities. Thus, issues such as how to expand and improve the services they provide to their users, information management, use of the Web as a means to access information and enhance the relationship between libraries in order to share resources, the establishment of intranets for managing information in organizations, the use of digital media and the combination of traditional systems with the latest, and the role of the librarian, increasingly focused on their faces as manager of information and education, are key elements in the trends that have libraries in health sciences today.
