- The main task of technical university libraries is to provide literature necessary to research, scholarly activities and to support education offered by their universities. Having in minds this task as well as the extension of publishing market and users’ new expectations of libraries, the author describes changes in methods of acquisition of literature supporting education (e-books) and research (databases). Furthermore, the principles of purchasing such resources (selection, cost estimation, negotiations) and basic purchasing models (licensed access or ownership) are discussed. The author also analyses new services in the context of users’ needs, particularly in relation to copyright issues.
