- This article proposes the use of Catalis (free software) as an auxiliary tool in cataloging courses. Due to the recent liberation of open-source software in the Web, an important number of library science students in Mexico are not familiar with its use and application. This situation represents an obstacle in their academic formation. Issues on open-source are also discussed and includes a complete list of some of the principal open-source systems used nowadays.
