- The effect of new information technologies significantly contributed to the development and provision of new information services by Greek Academic Libraries. The advantages and disadvantages of two distinct library organization models (i.e. functional and matrix structure models) are examined in the present paper, while ways of past and future application of the two models in the University of Thessaly Library are presented. Finally the mixed functional matrix structure is proposed as the best suited organizational model for the Greek Academic Libraries, taking into consideration that the particular conditions of each library’s development determine its likelihood and degree of actual employment.
