  • Tracings of libraries in Greece go back to the 6th ce. BC. Famous ancient Greek libraries include the library of the philosopher Aristotle (4th ce. BC.), the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (3rd ce. BC.), the Adrianus library in Athens (1th ce. BC.). Libraries flourished during the Byzantine empire particularly in monasteries. In the following 4 centuries some libraries opened in famous schools. The National Library of Greece was established in 1829. In 19th ce. some prestigious libraries were established. In recent years academic libraries are efficiently developed and other types of libraries follow the technological development.
