  • Paper title: "An approximation to the political barriers in the Mexican public libraries." Public libraries need, in order to guarantee their users an access free of charge, egalitarian and democratic to their information resources Para que en las bibliotecas públicas se de un acceso gratuito, to break several barriers. There are several barrier hampering users access to information in public libraries: economic, social, political, legal, cultural, linguistic and others. This papers focuses the importance for the Library and Information Studies professionals (LIS) to understand the link between politics and public libraries and librarians. It argues that when LIS professionals do not assume a political role in LIS politics and when they deliberately keep away from library politics, automatically they are playing the political role of unawareness, and their lack of political participation on any library matters make them a political barrier too against the development of public libraries. They become a political barrier which far from solving the fundamental library problems they become a part of the problem. It shows some specific examples of political barriers in the Mexican scenario and it proposes several recommendations for the LIS professionals so they may be better prepared to cope with those barriers.
