- In this text a problem of literary awards inflation in Serbia is considered with a special observation of status of The Most Read Book Award (given by the National Library of Serbia) which was transformed into The Best Book Award in 2005. It is an award for the best book in the network of public libraries in the Republic of Serbia. In the context of Serbian culture in 1990ies this Award was placed between the NIN Literary Award and the "Mesa Selimovic" Award (given by daily newspapers "Vecernje novosti"). The text discusses reasons for omission of changes in the field of culture after 2000, and describes process of transformation of NLS Award which had several phases. Both obligation of NLS to collect statistical data on book reading in public libraries and aesthetic quality which is necessary for a literary prize were taken into account. In the final version of the Plan of The Best Book Award these two segments are separated.
