- The Archimandrite, Nićifor Dučić (1832-1900), is one of the most important public figure, who has managed the National Library in Belgrade, in the second part of the XIX Century. Dučić was a scientist and a writer, a priest and a maker of Church Laws, a combatant and a patriot, a great teacher and a national educator. As his Contemporaries have written, with his quill and his cross and his sword, he pled for the welfare and development of the Serbian Nation, leaving us his huge scientific and written work. He was a Librarian (Director) of the National Library in Belgrade for almost six years, from October 10th, 1880. to May 15th, 1886. and he has contributed to the further improvement and development of this High Institution of the National Culture and Science.
