- This short essay has been written as a contribution to the Festschrift dedicated to the Professor Attilio Mauro Caproni. It aims to give an overview of the main topics discussed about the education and training of academic librarians in the so called "digital age". The focus of the paper is on the "Top Ten Assumptions for the future of Academic Libraries" discussed at the ACRL 13th Conference in 2007. Looking at the Italian situation, the main suggestion is to create opportunities of joint ventures with the Faculties and the Research Area, in order to produce the needed changes in the profession and the Academic libraries organization.
