- The cross-boundary collaboration between the libraries of Technological Institute of Serres and the University of Plovdiv “Paisii Hilendarski” is an initiative included in a wider collaboration programme between the above communities on the distance learning education in the fields of ICT and New Economy. The planning, coordination and management of a scientific and informative material exchange project amongst two academic libraries of different countries premised the communication in human resource as well as in technological infrastructure level. Statutory, organisational and spiritual rights issues as well as student teaching matters were brought up for discussion so as to find the optimum teaching practice with an ultimate target for the end users to be able to use equally the sources of the two collaborative libraries. The specific paper comes from the Greek side and contains comments on the experience gained out of implementing the above programme. Emphasis is given on the problem solving procedures as well as the promotion of the Library’s image as an educational tool on both academic communities. Adding this special activity on the current library work comprised a reason for an inner evaluation, reorganisation and preparation for supporting future activities as part of lifelong and distance learning education.
