- CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) is the largest professional association for library and information practitioners in the UK. A new framework of qualifications was launched in April 2005. Underpinning the framework is the Body of Professional Knowledge which is used for accreditation of higher education courses and for planning continuing professional development (CPD). The framework has four elements: Certification for para-professionals; Chartered membership for new professionals; Revalidation for existing professionals; Fellowship, which is the highest qualification CILIP awards. Important features of all elements are reflective practice, portfolio application, and mentoring. The overall aims of the framework are to enhance opportunities and reward achievement for members of the association, and to ensure the highest standards of professional practice.
