  • The paper illustrates the European context, after the Bologna Declaration (called the Bologna process), for programs accreditation and for competences certification of individuals and its opportunities for the LIS sector. The present situation of LIS schools accreditation and information professionals recognition is outlined, together with its strengths and weaknesses. Concluding, the competences based system of certification, chosen by the Bologna process, is described as stimulating a bridge between Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training and offering a key for improvement of information professionals.
