- The Istituzione Casa della Musica was born in 2002, courtesy of the City of Parma. It houses several music institutions of high cultural profile: the Historical Archives of the Teatro Regio (City of Parma), the University Music Departement, and the International Research Center of Music Periodicals (CIRPeM). There are also services available for less specialist use, such as the multimedia museum, L'Opera in scena: viaggio nel teatro musicale a Parma (Opera on stage: a journey in lyric theater of Parma) and the museum at Arturo Toscanini's native home; the Library with documents on various supports (books, periodicals, VHS, DVD, CD) and 10 multimedia workstations where the people can view film clips, listen to audio files and connect with the network. The Historical Archives of the Teatro Regio contains documentation relative to the activity of the theater in all its aspects, from 1816 to 1971 and is entirely available for consultation. In addition to this fundamental nucleus, many additions have come from donations, bequests and deposits that have further enriched the contents with important collections of printed musical scores and manuscripts, posters and photographs of artists and composers, celebrated autographs, theatre programs, musical and theatrical periodicals, opera librettos and various mementos, sketches of scenes and models, stage costumes and jewellery. There are also the audio and video recordings of the operas and concerts performed at the Teatro Regio of Parma from the 1960. The Casa della Musica gives to visitors the opportunity to study the exhibitions of the greatest artists who have appeared on this prestigious stage in these years. Unfortunately the supports of these recordings deteriorate with time. The process of digitalizing them has already begun giving the possibility to consult them on the network of the computer workstations at the Casa della Musica. There is also an important selection of the most significant documents about Giuseppe Verdi.
