- Abstract: Character education principally can be taught in a boarding school because the students are educated for daily manners. Through inroducting the concept pesantren, character formation can be realized. This paper reveals the result of a research in MIN Purwokerto. The data was taken by interpretative interview. It found that learning using pesantren model contribute to the development of student behavior. In boarding schools, the students are trained to be independent since the early years as preparing their stuffs by themselves, to be responsible in the alocated schedules, having highly social concern through the experiences living in a boarding school.
