- Based on the data obtained in MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo it was found the problem in teaching reading comprehension in the eleventh grade. The student’s reading was not satisfying and student’s ability in reading comprehension was lack. Therefore, it needed to improve their reading comprehension. One of them is using KWL strategy. KWL strategy is the process of making meaning that begins with what students know, moves to the articulation of question of what to know, and continues as students record what they learn. Based on the fact above, the researcher concluded that the statement of this study was “How is the implementation of KWL Strategy improve reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic years of 2013/2014? And Can KWL strategy improve the reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic years of 2013/2014?”. So, the purpose of the study was to know the implementation of KWL strategy to improve reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic years of 2013/2014 and to measure whether KWL strategy improves students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic years of 2013/2014. This research was a classroom action research. It was started on April 30 until May 18, 2014. It was conducted during two cycles, each cycle consisted of four stages including planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Research subject was the students of eleventh grade of MA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo in the academic years of 2013/2014 which consisted of 18 students. The research instrument used were observation, questionnaire and test. The result of this research indicated that in cycle 1 the student’s percentage who got the score above KKM was 45%, and improved to 100% in cycle 2. The Key Words : Reading Comprehension, KWL Strategy
