  • Pipe is one of the distribution media that must have agood toughness and could hold the crack or fracture. The failure in gas piping almost happened because off mechanical properties effect. Circumferential stress could make welded joint area to be broken . The purpose of this research is to know about modes of fracture in welded joint area as tensile stress effect. Specimen for testing is welded joint area of API 5L-X52 gas pipe from helical submerged arc welding. The experimentation with laboratory testing methode was using in the research. The results shows that the composition is in HSLA metal class, hardness value at welded joint area is on safety about ≤ 250 VHN. Micro structure shows that there are more combination between ferrite and pearlite.The tensile is on safety value between 66-11 KPsi. Fractography shows the dimple rupture with intergranular and transgranular cracking but thye’re on safety too.
