PENGARUH KELAS IBU HAMIL TERHADAP TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN IBU TENTANG BUKU KESEHATAN IBU DAN ANAK

- Background: Reducing maternal mortality rate is one of the goals of Millenium Developmental Goals (MDGs). Antenatal class is one way to accelerate the reduction of maternal mortality rate in Indonesia. One of the tools that is used in antenatal class is Maternal and Child Health Handbook (MCH Handbook). Aim: To analyze the influence of antenatal class toward mother’s knowledge of MCH Handbook. Methods: This study adopted a quasi experimental method with one group pretest posttest design. The respondents of this study were pregnant mothers in Ngesrep and Tinjomoyo Village who met the inclusion criteria. Respondents were asked to attend the antenatal class, and data was collected before and 1 week after the class. Data collection was done with answering the questionnaire of definition, function, and contents of MCH Handbook. The Paired T Test were used in comparing the overall result of pretest and posttest, also for MCH Handbook’s contents section between pretest and posttest result. Wilcoxon Test were used in comparing the definition and function section of MCH Handbook between pretest and posttest. Results: Respondents’ mean age is 29,45 + 6,578. Four respondents is in their first pregnancy, and the other seven is in their seconds or more.The mean score of pretest is 25,00 + 2,683, and 28,18 + 1,834 in posttest. There were significant difference of mother’s knowledge of MCH Handbook in before and after attending the antenatal class with p=0,001 (p<0,05). Respondents’ knowledge about MCH definition, function, and contents significantly increased with p<0,005. Conclusion: Antenatal class influences mother’s knowledge of MCH Handbook.
