- ABSTRACT Increased utilization of fishery biological resources, and the increasing traffic of fishery commodities both between countries as well as domestic, have the opportunity to increase the risk of the spread of fish diseases. In the development of marine and fisheries, fish quarantine has a strategic role in relation to the fishery commodities traffic, because one side is expected to fish quarantine as the first filter for the entry of fishery commodities so as to ensure the quality and safety of fish for each fishery products. Development of fish quarantine needs to be done in a focused and sustained implementation of quarantine in order to run optimally supported among others by the facilities and infrastructure, human resources, techniques and methods as well as the ability quarantine fish diseases (HPIK) diagnosis in accordance with national and international standards. In addition, the successful implementation of fish quarantine is also determined by the institutional and regulatory powerful, as well as community participation. Based on the fact above, it can be used to discuss a problem, how to fish quarantine policy role in achieving sustainable development? Method in this research is more focused on the review of the literature by using specification descriptive research based on qualitative. Principles of quarantine policies in line with the principles of natural resource sustainability of fisheries, particularly to conservation through preventive and active control of the HPIK. By taking a role in supporting the principle of ecological sustainability, socio-economic sustainability, community sustainability. For the instututional sustainability where one of the factors supporting the institution of quarantine legislation,is recommended refisi on regulation, by reason of the lack of a deterrent effect against violators of quarantine regulations and institutional development of quarantine.
