- Background : general anesthesia oftenly used in breast surgery although it causes 50% post-operative nausea and vomitting incidence. Single injection thoracal paravertebral block can reduce those complications. Aim : This study aims to see the effect of single injection thoracal paravertebral block against Visual analog scale (VAS) in patients who underwent breast surgery. Methods: The design of this research was observational clinical study with cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 10 patients who underwent breast surgery with single injection of paravertebral block anesthesia and whose VAS score had been measured in zero hour and 24th hour in Instalasi Bedah Sentral (Central Surgery Installation) RSUP dr. Kariadi Semarang. Results: It was obtained that the VAS score in single injection of paravertebral block anesthesia in 24th hour was lower than the zero hour with average score in zero hour = 3,9 ± 0,2 and average score in 24th hour = 3,7 ± 0,7. The statistic result with wilcoxon test showed that there was no significant difference with p= 0,317. Conclusion: There was a decrease in VAS score at both zero hour and 24th hour in patients who used single injection thoracal paravertebral block.
