- Softswitch is a switching system architecture which provides call control functions on the IP network. Softswitch is designed as an improvement of the existing circuit-switched system today which is PSTN / PLMN and also as a bridge to the evolution towards NGN. At first, softswitch is designed as a solution for the migration to the packet switching that must be implemented in phases because circuit-switched networks are still quite dominant and still operating. Softswitch network will be simulated in this final project to evaluate the quality and performance of softswitch network in handling telephone traffic. Network simulation is conducted using OPNET 14.0 software. Some metrics are used as performance benchmarks of this network, they are blocking probability, utilization, packet loss, time delay, and the mean opinion score (MOS). The highest blocking probability in this network simulation results is 0,024. Packet loss occurred in this network is 0,004. The lowest MOS is 4.36 and the highest end-to-end delay is at 92.75 ms.
