- Background: Obesity is one of the metabolic disease with the widest spread and it has become a problem in this modern era. Nowadays, research about preventing and treating methods of childhood obesity by concerning the short-term effects of diet and exercise interventions have only covered a minor fraction of the obese children. However the longer-term effects of these diet and exercise interventions among children have not been elucidated. This study aimed to follow-up the differences of body mass index (BMI) and physical fitnes (PF) in obese children after diet and exercise intervention. Methods: This was a pra-experimental research with one group pre and post test design. It was conducted in 2009-2010, on Bernardus elementary school children aged 9-12 years. The anthropometric measurement was done and the physical activity was assessed by questionnaire. PF using VO2max as its parameter was assessed by 20-m shuttle run test. Data were analyzed using t-test. Result: The total subjects were 32 students, consisting of 25 boys and 7 girls. There was significant differences on BMI (increased 0,56 kg/m2, p=0.036). But, there was no significant differences on PF (p=0,381). All of subjects still were very poor on PF, although there was increasing 0,24 ml/kg/menit. Conclusion: In this follow-up study of diet and exercise intervention, there were increasing BMI and PF, although most of all students still have very poor PF level.
