  • Background : Obesity has become the most common pediatric chronic disease in the modern era. One way to prevent and treat obesity is diet and exercise intervention, but long-term effects of these interventions has not been widely described. The objective of this study is to examine the long-term effects of diet and exercise intervention in obese children after one year. Methods : Pre-experimental design was conducted on 31 (24 male and 7 female) obese childrens aged 9-12 years in Semarang Bernardus elementary school from 2009 to 2010. All subjects were being examined anthropometric examinations, physical activity, and dietary intake at the end of the intervention and one year follow up. Compare tests were analyzed by paired T-test and Wilcoxon, correlation test using Pearson. Results : After one year, there are found increasing in BMI 0.86 kg/m2 (p=0.000), percent body fat 1.54% (p=0.022), 343 kcal of energy intake (p=0.000), protein 38.52 g/day (p=0.000), fat 46.15 g/day (p=0.000), cholesterol 241.70 mg/day (p=0.000), SAFA 3.28 g/day (p=0.046), MUFA 14.31 g/day (p=0.000), PUFA 7.12 g/day (p=0.000). Carbohydrate intake decreased 61.44 g/day (p=0.006). Correlation test between changes in energy intake with changes in BMI and percent body fat obtained p>0.05. Conclusions : Food intake and body composition increased after one year follow-up from the diet and exercise intervention.
