  • Background: Cinnamomum burmanii is Indonesian traditional spice that have been widely used as a cooking ingredients and herbal traditional products. It has been shown that Cinnamomum burmanii have hepatoprotective activity against ccl4 and alcohol administration. This study were designed to know the effect of cinnamonum burmanii extract administration on paracetamol induced liver damage on male BALB/c mice. Method: 30 male BALB/c mice were grouped into 5 group. Group K (-): were given saline. K (+): were given paracetamol P1: were given cinnamonum burmanii extract 200mg/kgBW/day and paracetamol. P2: were given cinnamonum burmanii extract 400mg/kgBW/day and paracetamol. P3: were given cinnamonum burmanii extract 800mg/kgBW/day and paracetamol. Then the blood was collected for SGOT and SGPT level measurement, the mice were terminated and the hepatic specimen was made. Result: There is a difference on liver microscopic structure on each groups. Administration of Cinnamonum burmanii extract can prevent hepatocyte cell necrosis and hydropic degeneration (p=0,0) which were given paracetamol but no significant difference between the dose on each cinnamomum group. On group P3 we found lymphocyte present suggesting hepatic inflammation. Statistic analysis of SGOT (p=0,4) and SGPT (p=1,0) level do not show significant difference between groups Conclusion: Administration of Cinnamonum burmanii extract may prevent hepatocyte necrosis but the change on blood SGOT and SGPT level do not show significant difference between groups.
