  • Taman Pendidikan Qur’an (TPQ) is an educational institution that supports formal education in schools. Teachers as one component in the teaching and learning activities have a very important role in determining the success of learning. The TPQ teacher's role is not only to educate students to be able to read and write the Qur'an properly, but also teach the students living in Islamic ways. The purpose of this study was to determine why individuals become TPQ teachers and to find out what factors could be his motivation, either intrinsic factors or extrinsic factors. This study uses qualitative methods in which data collection is done by the observation, to explore more about the TPQ teaching profession. The sample in this study were teachers who taught in a variety of TPQ in the Southern District of Semarang and has served for over 5 years. The results of this study stated that the reason is because they teach TPQ vocation and merely wanted to practice their knowledge to the exclusion of the value of the material that will be obtained. In addition to these reasons researchers are also trying to explain work motivation within Islam, and to discover factors that influence the motivation of TPQ teachers, both intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factor TPQ teachers consists of, worship, personal desires and expectations, job satisfaction, and responsibility. While the extrinsic factor TPQ teachers are, working conditions, relations, and respect.
