  • Transient start rolling was an interesting phenomenon commonly occurs in mechanical engineering, but still rarely discussed. Transient, in engineering design, should be considered due to its relation in tangential force, friction, also time and distance. Transient prediction would be very usefull in designing of precisionly engine components and relatively moving apparatus, because the transient periode could has significant effects in material destruction due to velocity differences between two contacting bodies. As a studying example, it’s learnt about transient rolling contact conditions with parallel axis cylinder. The analysis concerned to observe the traction distribution phenomenon, also slip and stick region formation. Transient condition was simulated on model with an applied controlled slip, resulting tangential forces. Analitycally prediction has done with considered literature and two-dimensional modelling using Finite Element. The observation resulted a comparation between analitically results and Finite Element results on parameters rolling distance and traction distribution, with approximately 0.5% in differences.
