- Background : Kombucha tea has been used as traditional medicine to stabilize metabolism and neutralize the poison, so it is believed can cure constipation, expedite digestion and against arteriosklerosis. But there are only a few researches about side effects of kombucha tea. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of gradual doses of kombucha tea orally to gastric histological appearance of balb/c mice Methods: This study was an experimental study with post test only control group design. The sampel were 20 male 8 weeks balb/c mice, that randomly allocated into 4 groups. group K recieved only standard food, group P1 received kombucha tea 0,26 ml/2x/day , group P2 received kombucha tea 0,39 ml/2x/day, group P3 received 0,59 ml/2x/day. Data were collected from investigation of gastric histological appeareance of mice. The difference of measured parameters between groups were analyzed by Mann-Whitney. Data were analyzed by SPSS 12,0 for windows Result : Mean score of epithelial integrity of gastric from four groups were significantly different (p = 0,020). Mean score of gastric epithelial integrity in K group (0,40 + 0,31)were the lowest. Meanwhile, the mean score in P3 group (1,48+ 0,11) were the highest. The Mann-Whitney test showed significant difference in K-P1(p=0,016), K-P2(0,008), K-P3 (p=0,008), and P1-P3(0,008) Conclusion : There was significant changes in gastric histological appearance of mice in supplementation of kombucha tea for 3 weeks Keywords : Kombucha tea, gastric histological appearance
