  • Interpersonal communication is a process to convey a message from a nurse to a patient either verbally or non-verbally measured by existing clearness, patience, softness, politeness, friendliness, and easiness to be understood in communication. The nurses at Inpatient Unit of Regional Hospital for Mentally Sick People of Dr. Amino Gondohutomo in Semarang had not optimally done interpersonal communication with their patients. Aim of this research was to analyze the influence of emotional quotient towards nurses interpersonal communication at Inpatient Unit of Regional Hospital for Mentally Sick People of Dr. Amino Gondohutomo, Semarang. Result of this research shows that most of the respondents have a high interpersonal communication (56%), high emotional awareness (65.5%), high emotional controlling (52.4%), high self-motivation (52.4%), high empathy (56%), and high social relationship (57.1%). Based on bivariate analysis, variables of emotional awareness, empathy, and social relationship have a significant association with nurses interpersonal communication. Result of multivariate analysis reveals that variables of emotional awareness (Exp B: 2.743), empathy (Exp B: 2.437), and social relationship (Exp B: 3.934) together influence towards nurses interpersonal communication at Inpatient Unit of Regional Hospital for Mentally Sick People of Dr. Amino Gondohutomo, Semarang.
