- Background: Methanol is the poison substance can cause death of human. Many case report about mortality because of drink the “oplosan”, which one of the content is methanol.Some people death more long time than each other, although they drink oplosan in same dose.Therefore, researcher interested to hold the experiment that prove the effect duration of giving methanol to brain, especially amount of neuron necrosis in putamen. Methods: This was experimental study with post test only controlled group design. The sample were 20 wistar rats, which divided randomly into four groups, each group have five rats. K group was control, not given methanol, P1 group was given 6 ml/kgbb of methanol 50% orally for five days, P2 group was given 6 ml/kgbb of methanol 50% orally for ten days, P3 was given 6 ml/kgbb of methanol 50% orally for fifteen days. After giving of methanol for certain day, the rats should be terminated and the amount of necrosis neuron counted . The data was descriptived in table and picture, then using the ANOVA test. Result: the administration of three groups with difference time was significantly (p<0,005) increased the amount of neuron necrosis. The highest amount of neuron necrosis is find on 15th days as 43,8 %. Conclusion: more long time for giving methanol 50% orally, then more neurons are necrosis. Keyword: Methanol, necrosis, putamen
