- Background : Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is one of medicinal herb antiinsomnia suplement. One of valerian content is isovalerate, it shows that this substance decrease pluripoten hematopoietic stem cell. Furthermore, another content is tannin which can obstruct iron absorption who will decrease quantity of hemoglobin in blood. Objective of this research is to find effect of an addition of subchronic valerian extract towards hemoglobin and eritrosit index (MCV, MCH, MCHC) on wistar rat. Methods : Experimental research with Post Test Only Controlled Group Design. Sample are 20 wistar rat divided into 1 control group and 3 treatment group. Extract addition is by oral by sonde in the 8th day as adapted before. K was given aquades. P1 was given a valerian extract 9mg/rat, P2 was given 18mg/rat, and P3 was given 36mg/kgBB. Hemoglobin content and eritrosit index is being checked by automated hematology analyzer, after 3 months of heart blood taking. Result : The results of comparative test was obtained and there is no differences between the group. Hemoglobin with p=0,108; MCV p=0,868; MCHC p=0,457; MCH p=0,334. Conclusion: An addition of sub chronic valerian extract do not effected to hemoglobin and eritrosit index. Key words : Valerian, Valeriana officinalis, hemoglobin, erythrocyte index
