- A language variety is one of the aspects in learning sociolinguistics. People use a language in different varieties based on their environment They will use stawdard language when they write and they will use colloquial when they speak. Today, the differences between the languages varieties for writing and speaking are not r. This research has trpase to learn _w .it the use of the language variety by writers of Sarong Semarang articles which is published in Snare Merdeka, a daily newspaper. Data were collected from the article during six months that started from May to October l994. After having edited the data researchers analyzed the edited data based on first, kinds of the language varieties used Second, they also analyzed about the relationship between topics of the articles and the language varieties used. Last. they researched code switching, slang, and interference from the articles. The result of the research show that slang, switched code, interference from Javanese language, dngli ' , Dutch to Indonesian language are often used to express the writer's idea.
