  • Background: Indonesia is an endemic area for typhoid fever. Gynura procumbens which is usually called as ‘god leaves’ is known to have an immunomodulator effect. The component inside can increase IL-2 activities which eventually increase macrophage activities in eliminating bacteries. This research purpose is to examine the bacteria colonies sum in spleen which is infected by Salmonella typhimurium and has been given Gynura procumbens diet. Method: This laboratory observational research use 20 BALB/C mice which is divided into 4 groups. K was control group which only infected by S. typhimurium without treatment, and experiment groups (P1,P2,P3) were treated with Gynura procumbens (Lour) Merr’s root extract with different doses (0,1mg; 0,2mg; 0,4mg) for 14 days which infected by 103 Salmonella typhimurium on the 9th day. Each groups has 5 mice. In the 15th day all groups are terminated and bacteria culture on SS Agar is made. Data formed as bacteria colonies sum (Cfu/gram) is analyzed and presented as table. Result: In control group the mean bacteria colonies sum is 94067059,28. While in the P1 group the mean bacteria colonies sum is 39420130,13. P2 and P3 group each has 213761658,42 and 163264237,59 mean bacteria colonies sum. Conclusion: the analyzed data doesn’t show significantly differences in bacteria colonies sum between the control group and the three research group. It can be conclude that the given of Gynura procumbens tuber extract can’t decrease the sum of spleen’s bacteria colonies. Keywords: Gynura procumbens, Salmonella typhimujrium, Hitung Kuman
