  • Background: Phaleria macrocarpa or Mahkota dewa has immunostimulant effect by increasing the proliferation and cell T activity, IL-2 activity, as well as macrophage activity. During the process of phagocytosis in intracellular activity, macrophage plays a role as a professional phagocyte and Antigen Presenting Cell (APC). Because of this, Phaleria macrocarpa can be used to increase the ability of the immune system towards pathogen bacteria infection found in intracellular level. Salmonella typhimurium, one of pathogen bacteria, will be used for the purpose of this research. Objectives: To know the effect of macrophage phagocytosis activity on Balb/c mice which has been given Phaleria macrocarpa and control group. To know the effect of the dose of the Phaleria macrocarpa and the macrophage phagocytosis activity. Methods: Experimental research using the post test only control group design. Research sample were 30 female mice. The mice were divided into 6 groups which were named K1 (not given any special treatment), P1(0,12ml Phaleria macrocarpa), P2(infected with S. thypimurium), P3(given 0,06ml Phaleria macrocarpa and infected with S. thypimurium), P4 (given 0,12ml Phaleria macrocarpa and infected with S. thypimurium), and P5(given 0,24ml Phaleria macrocarpa and infected with S. thypimurium). Data was collected by counting the macrophage activity on the latex bead Results: Mean of Phogocytosis Index : K=0,367; P1=0,475; P2=0,518; P3=;0,577; P4=0,706; P5=0,825. The comparation with more than 2 independent variables between control group and experimental group has significant outcame with (p<0,05). Conclusions: There was a significant difference on macrophage phagocytosis activity of BALB/C mice which had given Phaleria macrocarpa and infected by Salmonella thypimurium . Keywords: Phaleria macrocarpa, macrophage phagocytosis, Salmonella thypimurium
