- This study examines thefirms characteristics effect to extent ofvoluntary disclosure in the annual report. Thepurpose ofthe study is to analyse whether the differences in voluntary disclosure published in annual reports of companies listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSV are associated with the characteristics ofthefirms. The voluntary disclosure index consisting of 18 voluntary items was developed to measure the extent of voluntary disclosure in the 2006 and 2007 annual reports of202firms andmultiple regression analysis wasemployed to test the research hypothesis. The studyfinds that the extent ofvoluntary disclosure in the annual report is signolicantly andpositively associated with firm size, profitability ratio, and auditfirm but liquidity ratio is significantly and negatively associated with the extent of voluntary disclosure in the annual report. Age firm and ownership dispersion are not significantly associated with the extent ofvoluntary disclosure. Keywords: annual report, voluntary disclosure,firm characteristics
