- Impact of increased development of facilities and utility facilities in Balikpapan indirectly impact on the improvement of the land increased, resulting in a reduction of green open space in Balikpapan. One area that gets the attention associated with the reduced area of green open space in particular is an area of mangrove forests Sungai Wain Balikpapan. To follow up on reduction of green open space it needs to do research. The purpose of this study is to strategize the development and processing of mangrove forest in Sungai Wain Balikpapan through the concept of ecotourism based on the 3 (three) aspects: technical aspects (of mangrove species, mangrove planting techniques and patterns), social aspects (number and density of population, participation and public awareness of mangrove forest management), institutional aspects (support of Balikpapan City Government, Laws support, participation BLH, circles and Higher Education) in order to establish a caring society and elements of ecotourism in mangrove rehabilitation efforts. Based on the results of the study, questionnaires from 30 respondents note that the participation of BLH and The Higher Education has a greater effect that is 37.9% so that it can affect the Condition of Mangrove Forest River Wain Balikpapan as ecotourism.
