Daftar Isi:
  • 2,4-dichlorophenol compound may be present in the wastewater from the process of the bleaching of pulp using chlorine. In domestic activity, 2,4-dichlorophenol is also generated during the combustion of organic material in the presence of chloride. The ability of microorganism to degrade chemical absolutely depends on the toxicity of the compound. The halogen in 2,4-dichlorophenol will have a deactivating effect in microorganism. To isolate the microorganism which can degrade 2,4-dichlorophenol, the source of the microorganism used was caming from the wastewater of the Indorayon pulp plant using chlorine as the bleaching agent. This microorganism should be acclimatized with 2,4-dichlorophenol, and then be isolated and identified. Based on identified bacteria using biochemical method, reported that 2 species bacteria which are able to degrade 2,4-dichlorophenol is Acaligenes sp (gram negative), and Bacillus sp (gram positive). The biodegradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol is started from day of 3 after processing, until 21 days which the final concentratiion of 2,4-dichlorophenol is 0,2 mg/l from initial 40 mg/l for Alcaligenes sp bacteria
